China's Huawei unveils tablet to take on Apple, Samsung

SINGAPORE - China's Huawei Technologies unveiled a new tablet computer called the MediaPad Monday that he hopes will take place on leader Apple and Samsung Electronics.

The launch is part of an aggressive push from Huawei, the world's second largest supplier of telecommunications equipment behind Ericsson ERICb.ST be in the consumer space.

"With Huawei MediaPad, we show once again that the design, functionality and performance within reach someone," Victor Xu, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Device, said in a statement.

Huawei Unit is a division of Huawei Technologies, mobile phones, smartphones and Tablet PC systems.

Huawei said the 7-inch MediaPad Android operating system will run Google Inc. and use a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor from Qualcomm. It will also come with pre-installed applications such as Facebook and Twitter.

Global Tablet PC market is now dominated by Apple's iPhone by about 80 percent market share.

In China, with the exception of Apple's tablet PCs Huawei and ZTE also compete with Lenovo.
